Pulse Patterns

By 2002, I had lost interest in the naturalistic portrayal of humans and rejected traditional western perspective. My enthusiasm for Japanese prints and the work of early 20th century mentors led me to embrace a different perspective and champion color as a driving force. 

Pulse Patterns is my first series of paintings created by projecting spontaneous “doodle drawings” onto the canvas. Spaces of the grid-like weave were color-coded with minimalistic color palettes. Oil paint was thinned to mimic enamel so that individual brushstrokes could fuse into discrete, unified shapes.
